Anyone Use Permatex Indian Head Gasekt Shellac? 200

The other day in auto shop class, my instructor demo'd the use of this chemical on his 2000 Ford Mustang's thermostat housing:

He said that it fills in air gaps. I'm wondering what applications it may have on our Volvo 240s (before I do something stupid on mine, LOL).

Thanks

if you are just wanting to tack the gasket in place so it dosen't slip during installation....This is the stuff to use. No need to smear it all over....just few light brush strokes to provide tackiness. You don't use it as a sealer/gasket addition. You use it as glue. "a little dab will do ya" (Brylcreem---it's the BeesWax)

      VW 200

The VW valve cover gaskets had a way of slipping out of it's edge. Indian head basically glued it in place to the valve cover. Then you would just smear fresh oil onto the other side. Gaskets would last around three to five scheduled valve
      adjustment

I used to use it on air cooled VW's to hold the valve cover gaskets in place but only on the cover itself, not the cylinder head.

The fact that shellac is part of the name should tell you this stuff is pretty sticky before it sets up. As I recall it takes a little effort to clean off the previous application.

I have never used any sealant on a Volvo gasket unless it was specifically called for.
