Bell house & Flywheel removal B16 444-544 1960

Hi,i'm starting an engine rebuild on my B16,rings bearings etc. No problems removing engine but have come to a complete standstill when it comes to removing bell housing and flywheel so as to be able to fasten engine to my engine stand. The two lower bolts which hold the bell housing to the block are behind the fly wheel and the bell housing prevents me from removing fly wheel. How do I get round this problem?

Volvo didn't leave a lot of room inside the bellhousing for removing the flywheel.

Try moving the crankshaft so that there ISN'T a crankshaft stud pointed straight up.

If that doesn't work, the try tapping in the top 2 crankshaft studs. You shouldn't need to tap them in very far.

Before you remove the flywheel, make some reference marks so when you go to reinstall the flywheel it will be easier.

Since the flywheel has the marks for setting the ignition timing, the hole/stud pattern is not evenly spaced so the flywheel will only go on 1 way.
