1986 240 warning lights 200

Hi,
I posted earlier about alt not charging and one suggestion was to check the alt warning light. I forgot that this light needed to illuminate for the charging circuit to work. I noticed that are warning light are not coming on in position two or when the car is running. I wouldn't think all bulbs could be bad. Any pointers in finding the cause?
Thank you.

Hi Phil,
Thanks again, the #13 fuse was blown. The blue wire that goes from the alt to the chassis was broken so this looks like the issue.
Thanks!
Joel

Hi,

Glad to hear that you found something!

Either one of those two things, you called out, will cause the alternator not to work.
The blue wire or housing wire is a bigger problem that gets over looked many times.
To just look at the housing one can easily think that it has to be grounded but that's not so, due to those rubber mounting bushings that sag over time.

I don't know how the fuse can blow unless it's just age or the fuse builds up corrosion that over heats the fuse.
Even if the wire got accidentally ground, the light bulb in the cluster, should limit current through that circuit.
It's one light bulb, of an array of other bulbs, sharing a diode circuitry, so maybe, it was something else that happens that out of my realm of knowledge.
That realm, in some cases its a rim and could be considered a cliff! (:-)

I was surprised to find out that the right front parking lamp was even remotely connected to the areas of those two fuses.

Happy for ya, if this fixes the issue.

Phil

Hi,

I only have information on a 1985 available to me at the moment.
It should be close enough to work.

You might check the fuse panel for a blow fuse.
The ignition switch feed 11,12, & 13 fuses when it's turned on.

The number 13 actually feeds the alternator light through a red/ blue wire and the exciter circuit of the alternator.

Fuse 16 feeds power to the instrument cluster through a gray wire.
Fuse 16 appears to provide power to the right front parking lamp too!
A bad bulb or actually the wiring out going there could blow that bottom fuse 16.

Is that light working out there?
I'm only suggesting this as a possible cause, because, I see the notation talking about it.
I have no experience in having this happening to me, as of yet?

Hope this helps!

Phil
