radio suppression relay...where? 900 1992

92 940T, 2.3 bosch FI. I've looked everywhere under the hood and no radio suppression relay to be found. The relay for the fan is behind the dr side headlight (it even says fan relay on it). Can someone please tell me if this thing exists.

FCP tells me there is a rsr part Number: 3523490 https://www.volvopartswebstore.com/products/Volvo/1992/940/Suppression-kit/1165493/3523490.html that is listed for this year and engine and is shown to be behind the radio. I can't find it.

Can anyone help...Spook? You've bailed me out b4.

Eng is getting spark but not fuel. I've replaced about everything else. 289k. thanks.

Now that spook has directed you to its location you can remove it. Once you have removed it use a jumper wire to connect the two female connectors that attach to the two heavier wires in that plug.

If the car will now start and run you have determined that the RSR is not functioning. At that point you can remove the cover and reflow the solder connections on the board and that will probably solve the problem.

A spare radio suppression relay along with a fuel injection relay and an overdrive relay reside in the glove box of our 940's.

ok. Thanks. If I find it, I hope someone sells the part. I don't mind replacing it, if I can find it. Thank you.

        Dear Steve v,

Hope you're well. You'll find it!

You can get the relay here: https://www.fcpeuro.com/products?utf8=%E2%9C%93&keywords=1323592 or here: https://www.eeuroparts.com/Cars/Volvo/1812/1994-940-Wagon-2-3L-4-Cyl-8-Valve/?search=1323592 .

        Hope this helps.

        Yours faithfully,

        Spook

thanks Spook....you're aces man. As you instructed me, I dug in there and found it. It is buried behind heavy wires, driver's side, about 1.5' behind headlight assembly practically directly under the fender. Thanks.

As it turned out, it wasn't the problem. Busted wire on the fuel pump (the one on the shelf with the filter, under the drivers seat). Wire broke off of the terminal. I should have listened closer when turning the ignition on...I would have noticed not hearing the pump power up. Stupid of me.

If anyone has this issue, FCP doesn't carry the parts. I found them at Volvo in Oak Park Illinois. 888 783 7858. They offer exploded diagrams...I wish FCP would too.

the terminal connector is part # 948293 (it's the female terminal that connects to the male bullet lead on the fuel pump.

the plastic housing is part # 1307035. It's that plastic part that opens up, with the ears on both sides that snap onto the pump fitting.

I couldn't find the rubber sleeve the terminal fits into, so I rigged it with electrical tape. Not optimal, but it's real snug and protected.

Buy extra cause they're small and fussy. Thank you everyone for helping.

Spook, you're the Godfather of Volvoworld man !!!

            Dear steve v,

Hope you're well. Glad it was something simple, e.g., a disconnected wire.

To make under-body connections water-resistant, get some butyl rubber tape. This can be had at auto glass stores.

Butyl rubber is usually black, always sticky and doesn't harden with time. It conforms to items around which it is wrapped and bonds to itself, forming a solid seal. If it has to be removed, use a razor-edge knife. Make sure the area is dry (don't want to trap water] and clean of grease/dirt. Use a solvent (acetone or methyl ethyl ketone [aceton's slower-evaporating cousin]) to clean. Then apply butyl tape.

The REAL "Godfather of Volvoworld" is Dave Stevens. See his dianostic guidance provided to me. Worth its weight in Gold!!!!

            Hope this helps.

            Yours faithfully,

            Spook

    radio suppression relay...where? 900 1992

    Dear steve v,

Hope you're well. On turbo-equipped engines, the radio interference suppresssion relay (aka fuel injection relay) should be mounted on the driver's side inner fender wall, a few inches towards the rear of the car, relative to the headlamp housing. On non-turbo-equipped engines, this relay is mounted on the passenger-side inner fender wall, in the same place relative to the headlamp housing.

The relay likely is "hidden" behind a thick wiring harness, that runs along the top of the inner fender wall. The relay is secured to the inner fender wall by a metal clip, attached to the relay's case. Wiggle the relay while pushing upwards, to free the relay.

This relay is about two inches (50mm) tall, an inch thick, and about 1.5" wide. It is a very dark brown, almost black. It is at the end of a four-wire square connector.

If it is the factory-original item, it doesn't owe you a penny. As it has been in place for over two decades, use a small screwdriver to lift the plastic tabs, that secure the relay to the wiring harness connector. Then, gently wiggle the relay to separate it from the wiring harness connector.

    Hope this helps.

    Yours faithfully,

    Spook
