220 Tank Replacement 120-130

Sadly my 220 has been in storage since Harvey hit Houston 2 years ago. But all that changes now. I moved it to my new house this weekend and the push to get it driving again begins. Before I parked it in 2017, I figured out that the fuel tank pickup was somehow damaged, so it would only run with a full tank of gas. to little and the pump sucked air. I tracked down a replacement wagon tank (no small feat). Tank looks awesome on the inside, a bit ugly outside.

Anyone have a link or info on doing the tank swap. Other than the tank, anything I need (seals, gaskets, etc?).

Hopefully this gets me running with less than a full tank, and also the clean new (used) tank is the start of not clogging my SU's anymore.

Removal should be fairly quick & simple. I had a similar occurrence and took it to a radiator shop. They cut open the top of the tank, peeled the skin back and soldered a new pick up. Boiled all the crud out of it. All totaled it cost me about $50.

Apparently, new reproduction 122 wagon gas tanks are going to be available.

Not cheap, but a viable alternative.

Of course, after I buy a used one. The used one looks great inside. Very clean. I may do the coating in it. For sure I am switching to ethanol free fuel from here out.

    220 Tank Replacement 120-130

This happened on my PV444 Gasoline tank. Pick-up tube inside the tank was rusted with pin holes. You just might want to treat you replacement tank with POR15 on the inside and clean , rust treatment and trunk bed liner spray to finish the outside of the tank.

Yes, pin holes in the pick-up pipe can be a problem and not easy to test it. Mastic or butyl tape for the seal to the body. Better than caulk from a tube. Make sure the filler neck to body seal is good, replace is suspect. New connector hose and breather pipes. Make sure the breather tube in the outer filler neck is clear.
If you have a pin hole or holes in the fuel line from the tank to the pump that can also suck air. Again, these can be hard to spot and may well be on the top of the pipe and so not tending to show a leak. If there is a lot of underseal over everything it may show as a small darker/wet patch.
Fuel gauge sender needs a good earth. Mastic seal can make for a poor one so adding an extra wire not a bad idea.
Not as easy as swapping the tank on a saloon. A jack and a 20" x 20"-ish piece of thick plywood will help with removal. Good luck with it from another Wagon owner.
