Wheel rim/ tire compatibility 700 1990

Good day all,

I have a 1990 740 turbo with 16" alloy wheels and low profile tires. I have a pair of standard 15in? 740 rims from another 1990 with snows.

I would like to use these for the winter.

Thoughts on compatibility please.

OBTW, the GLE the tires come off was destroyed by a driver in a F150 who in all probability was DUI (police report Monday)

I am now looking for another 740 with manual transmission.

30 yo airbag worked!!

TIA

jimB

Check the sizes of your rotors and calipers.

I used 15 inch steel rims on our '90 744TI without any issues.

If the sizes are appropriate, get another pair of steel rims with snow tires on craigslist - they abound on Boston craigslist.

BTW - a '90 744TI does a great drift with worn snow tires - I made it around a large oval rotary!

Also, check the wires to your front wheel sensors, the wide tires on my 744 wore half way through on the right side wire.

If you replace 16’s with 15’s you may have to also swap the rotor and other brake hardware if the 15” rim interferes with the caliper.
