1992 745 Horn and washer fail

The horn and windshield washer do not work.
I cannot find a wiring diagram for this year.

I did pull the front washer connector apart and do not see 12v when the stalk button is depressed. I did apply jumped 12v to the pump and it does work.

I did find a 1971 740 wiring diagram but I was getting dizzy torturing myself. For reference there is a gr/red wire and black at the connector. Any help?

Marty

Wiring Diagrams

Oz Volvo Archive. Maybe find a factory green manual that better details the circuits for your year.

Hope that helps.

Thankyou kgv

The first link turned me on to the 92 740 wiring diagram. Just what I needed.

Thanks again for your help.

1992 745 Horn and washer fail

Quirky problems with wipers/washers/horn on the 700 series cars are often times caused by a poor ground between the steering column and the dash structure. The two mounting bolts that hold the column to the dash can work loose.

Thankyou Chris,

You were correct that ground problems were the cause of the horn malfunction. Dirt and dust accumulating on the slip ring seems to have been the cause. However in my defense, the washer pump (in my 92, not the 91 and prior years) unlike the horn is power side switched vs ground side switched.

Horn now works w a good spraying of contact cleaner and at least my front windshield washer is working after freeing the pump of gunk.

Thanks for keeping me on track. Seems the two problems could have been related on a 91. Unrelated on this 92

Marty
