Hello-
I have owned my 240 for nearly 11 years. She is great but sadly I often times neglect her. I am having an issue with BOTH the rear passenger doors. Neither door can be opened from the inside or the outside. The door locks are up (unlocked) and the child locks are not engaged. I have removed the inner door trim and have fussed with the linkages and all "appear" to be functioning properly- I can see that there is movement on the inside of where the lock is but the doors still do not open no matter how hard I push or pull. My suspicion is that other than some possible linkage wear the door has sagged and perhaps cannot get over the pin at the strike plate??

Has anyone dealt with this issue and if so what is the best way to get the door to open?

Thank you in advance for your response.

You mention the striker pin hanging the latch up on its way to opening. I think I know this by experience. What fazes me is having it suddenly occur in both rear doors at once.

Try pushing the door inward with a knee, just below the door's beltline, while you open the latch. If this fails, it might be because of the slop that develops in the outside handle from trying to overcome the sticky latch, so try again with someone helping to release the latch from inside.

Here is the solution I've used, but you can't do it until you get the door open. The pin and perhaps the hinge may need to be adjusted if the sag is considerable. Usually it is the driver's door that has the problem first.

It would be a good idea to spray the latch with penetrating oil from inside to the door. The open slots under the door handle are another path for lubricant. There are a couple of springs involved with the latch assembly. One of them is what keeps the door lock pin either up or down and is subject to breaking. Can you feel that spring working when you lift the pin? -- Dave
