The old girl does not need the Inners done yet but I was going to buy the Harbor Freight tool for future work.... My cars, the kids cars etc.
There Adapters are limited so I was trying to get a fix on Nut size to see if the tool would work with the current cars in the family. Kids all love their Subarus.

Tony, it depends on which rack you have, and not just whether it is ZF or CAM. More often than not, I've relied on large vise-grip pliers.
Example:

There are special tools which accomplish this more certainly. Google CTA 4014 for one idea.

Thanks Art. Glad to see you are still out there.
Looks like there is room on the 200's to play Vise grip and cresent wrench games. Which makes me happy to see.
A friend of a friend came by the other day and after quick evaluation I told him he needed an inner on his Suby Impreza. It's pretty deep in there even with the wheel cut full Lock. I think they were hoping for me to jump in but I really think I needed the 'real' tool. Besides that I am building a house. Then again it only keeps me busy 12-14 hours a day. Who needs sleep?

Your 89 still your newest vehicle? Same with me. I notice some folks have found Subaru the "next" place, just as many diehards found Volvo 240s to fill a hole in a VW air-cooled addiction. Saw this move to Subaru even in IPD's business many years ago, and have since noticed some "replacement" Subes have already died from dislike of the boxer's longevity or lack thereof.
Also, it seems your pages hosted on Erling's site don't show up any longer. Maybe he knows of a new URL?

My Volvo is still my daily driver but some years ago I got a great deal on a barely Used '99 Honda CR-V from a co worker. That CR-V is about two weeks short of 200K miles on it. It has treated us well. A pain to work on. Heck, someone rotated the engine 90 degrees from where it 'should' be. : )
Those Subie engines are nice for MPG's but the older one (2000) that my some brought home was tough on Head Gaskets. As I found out, That is the big issue with those engines. Engine needs to be Pulled out to get to the Heads.
Ahhh, While I got you, I'm lazy right now to search.... Windshields... What is the deal with getting a later model windshield , without the Trim? I would love to keep the trim on my '89. The chrome is still nice but the Rubber is hard. I fear the clips will snap trying to push the rubber against windshield. As many are broken now. Does the '91 windshield come with the gasket separate or is it attached to the windshield when it comes?
I think Erling's website can no longer use his old employees Server. So my Seat stuff cannot be viewed thru him any longer.

"What is the deal with getting a later model windshield , without the Trim?"
The short answer is FW667, comes with the trim, and you get rid of the clips. If you really wanted to keep that piece of anodized aluminum, you'd just buy a new clip kit, and fit an FW404.
Long answer is in here: http://cleanflametrap.com/windshield.html#LWR, and good for another thread.
Nice to see you're still Volvoing, and that you're building now too.

After a very difficult time on the phone with SAFELITE, I find they do not know what these numbers mean. I assumed they were a 'style and size' code for the windshield. I guess they are Volvo part numbers?
"I do not understand sir, our part numbers are 8 digits long".

"Safelite repair. Safelite replace."
Didn't imagine they were in the business of selling the glass without the install.
No one has ever told a happy story about Safelite to me. However, I understand many happy stories go untold.
Which windshield were you looking for. Use Google?

I have no problem with them doing the replace. I just cannot believe
that Even if you Google a Local Safelite number and call it, it
connects you to the same Corporate recorded crap and it takes forever
to talk to a human.
And that human knows even less about auto glass as I do. those FW #'s
are a NAGS number. Could not get an answer whether they will install
a '91 windshield in an '89 car.
All they know is punch in make model and year and they will arrive
with that windshield.
When Corporate did connect me to a local place, #1 they didn't know
the actual phone number to where they were connecting me to, and "B"
the local place ended up hanging up on me as they transferred me to
the Shop area. I'll be making a 80 mile road trip JUST to talk to
them.

Sorry Tony, my friend,
Yours is just one more Safelite story to call to mind when I see their commercial on the TV.
Don't you have the option of using a locally owned auto glass shop?
Wishing you the best. Maintain that longevity.

No options. I now live in a VERY Rural area. You know, when the main highways are still simply Tarred and graveled. Gotta drive 10 miles to come across a traffic light. Not many options around here at all. 40 mile (one way) IS the closest glass anything around.

Thanks Art. As I mentioned, the Rubber on the trim is hard. Many moons ago , When I had a windshield put in, In less then a year the new clips broke on the corner. So it's been lots of years since, It has to be worse.
Yes, Building... It's been about 3 years longer then expected. Architects kept thinking they knew more of what I wanted then I did. Spent many hours telling them to Undo the changes they made to my drawings.
