Ok, I think shimming will do the trick. I put zip ties behind the three stud/weight points. Now when the compressor is turned off (using the snowflake button) it drags ever so slightly. I recall it doing that years ago but hasn’t done it recently. Hit the snow button and it kicks on like it should. So one guessing on these hottest of dog days the gap had become too great and was causing the issue. If you don’t hear back, full testing confirms the fix.

Here’s a vid of the mechanic/craft wire approach on the same clutch face style in same fashion as my zip ties. Worked for this guy. Just wondering if I’ll need to remove them in winter.... but I’m guessing a little wear on the plastic the next few months will make that unnecessary.

Last year I shimmed out my clutch w bread clips and it worked great until the shims ultimately fell out 8 months later.

One of the esteemed members of the brickboard suggested some metal shim material trimmed to size and using a proper adhesive for a better cure.

If you insert a stout screwdriver behind the clutch plate, you can make room for insertion of the shim, or as I did use bread clips.
