B230K distributor assembly 200

Good day!

I need a distributor assembly (or just the upper portion), what lies after the distributor cap. Hope someone has a good working spare.

Amado,

Your profile claims you post from Alabama in the US, but the car you describe sounds more like one built for other markets. Most of those responding only know US market 240s. Your ignition may be TZ-28H. Fuel system is irrelevant.

I am from the Philippines and my 240 is an import from Sweden nd was used by a Swedish consul for awhile. athe engine is aspirated via a Solex Cisac carburettor. I am still hoping someone has a spare distributor assembly that is for sale.

Great! Will it fit a 1987 B230K engine? Can you send some photos and how much will it cost me?

Hi,

The question that needs to be considered, in this conversation is ... What fuel management system is in the car?

You are needing a distributor that has a Hall sensor pick up coil, below the rotor button and its for only one type of ignition system.
This is Earlier than 1988 ignition type. But 1988 these may vary inside with that production year run went through.
If, the body's ignition system changes, the distributor does as well!
Engines that come with Crank Position Sensor mounted on its back side over the flywheel, have distributors that are empty inside, below the rotor button.

I would say, even though I have not tried it, you can run either distributor on any car made after 1989.
Another thing, to you, is why not add a Hall Sensor to a empty distributor off a later car?

Have things changed, in there, that much would have to be my question, if it were my thread!

It seems to me there has been an engine swap and the cars body has not been mentioned.
The engines are all the same in "family character," mechanically!
So what came with that engine is the part that's confusion and leads this back to indentifcation of the ignition system or parts.

Phil

Thank you for the inputs. My 1987 Volvo 240 gl runs on a normally aspirated Solex Cisac carburettor. I hope this additional information will narrow down my selection in obtaining the compatible and period correct distributor assembly for my Volvo.

Hi again!

So you have nothing in common with fuel injection of any type of K jet or LH fuel systems in the car.
You only have the basic electronic ignition and not the points and condenser like the 140 series days.
In this case you still need the Hall Effect Sensor pickup below the rotor button.
It will have a reluctor wheel on the shaft triggering the coil for the pluses to send to a black box.
The timing is still adjustable on these systems.

Both of these black boxes are mounted in the engine bay.
The K Jet was just square and set all by itself. It was used up to the LH 1.0, in around 1982 or about the time the Turbos hit the scene, I think.
The LH’s did the same thing except for a vacuum hose going over to the intake manifold via under the engine. They are longer in length but are made by Chrysler engineers and their bewildering minds when it came to Connections!
There is a mix of trial and error of slipping this or that here or there.
Add in any countries having mandates for emissions and that churned the worms worse!

Fortunately, Both these systems used the same Hall Effect Sensor setup in the distributors.
If this is a true of a 1987 engine you are in the picking area from at least 1977 to 1988 before they start waning from production.

There are early Volkswagen vehicles that used them too.
They make conversions kits, for that 70’s crowd, to get them totally away from points and condensers.
The devil is in the details of drive gears and so forth though, unfortunately?
Same goes for the harness to connect up whatever you find!

Distributors don’t take up much room and there must be plenty them needing engines, just lying around.

I suggest you post the connector shape on here to get one that will match your boxes harness.

This will be like a new flint block, in a black powder gun! Now that’s a spark before electricity!

Phil
