55A alternator 120-130

I've swapped out my generator for a 55A Bosch alternator (which was stock on some later(?) 1800 series cars).

I'm trying to find one for another car (late B18 with the cast threaded boss for alt), and want to find out if the 55A Bosch alt that came stock on 240 / B21 is a direct replacement? Anything different - pulley? regulator?

thanks

Danny

I think the Volvo part # for the 55 amp alternator fit on the B20 was 241527 and was equipped with an external regulator. I think the 55 amp alternator fit to the B21 on early 200 series was an internal regulator alternator so definitely different than the B20 55 amp alternator. Can't advise as to whether it will or won't fit on the B20.

If you check the Rock Auto site for the 140 series you can find remans listed for both the 35 amp and 55 amp (I think the 55 came if AC was fitted). That might be the easiest way of getting one that fits. You will need to get the matching regulator. Or go the Sw Em route.

Swedish Embassy's Delco alternator bracket is worth every penny and then they alternator choices are many.

I agree with Rick. I welded up my own bracket, eliminating the rubber isolater bushings, and used a 60 amp Delco alternator on my 65 544 with a B18. Got a rebuild kit from ebay for 15 - 20 dollars that included every replaceable part. No soldering all easy to do. These alternators were used on GM cars for years and are readily available and cheap. Tom

I've seen people cobble them on, but they don't bolt on without some mods.
