Oil Leak 900 1997

Hi all,

Today I changed the oil and the filter, as I do every year.
I also verified the PCV, it was clean but I removed the oil trap,all the pipes and degreased them all.

However, I noticed an oil leak coming from the area in the image below:

I even do not know the name of the leaking part, I circled it in red.
As you can see, there is also oil around the oil cap and the pipe in the picture, below you see the bolt is wet.

Let's start to understand the name of those parts and the next steps I can take to eliminate the leak.

Oil Leak 900 1997

Dear Metallo,

Hope you're well. Is this car's engine turbo-charged? Is it a 940 or a 960 S/V90?

I ask, as turbo-engined cars have an oil cooler, mounted next to the block, where an oil filter usually goes. The oil flows to the cooler through two short hoses, which - with time and heat - deteriorate.

Only the first picture was even partly helpful.

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, the car is turbo charged, you are correct.
The reason why I took pictures from above the engine is because I noticed it was also wet.

I will look at the two hoses you mentioned.
If they are the culprit, can they be easily changed?

Dear Metallo,

Hope you're well. I have never owned/worked on a turbo-charged B230 engine.

That said, if oil leaks from atop a B230 engine, I'd look at the valve cover gasket. If that's the source of the leak, then gently snug the 10mm acorn nuts, that secure the valve cover to the head. If the oil leak persists, then the valve cover gasket should be replaced.

Based on others' posts, if the oil cooler hoses are factory-original, they're almost certainly past the end of their service life. I hope someone - who has changed these hoses - will comment on how best to replace them.

Try tightening clamps on big turbo hoses first...carefully. They are probably too soft and mushy. If you have to replace them they it's easy.
Oil cooler hose that's underneath near the oil filter is a pain. Don't mess with it. Also, there is a small chance that your oil leak comes from the distributor O-ring. Check that too. Good luck.

I forgot to mention that the car is a 940 Turbo B200FT.
I will check the hoses, and go from there.
