Hi,

Very questionable as there are no sensors for fuel leaks per say? The fuel leak would have to be fairly large to make the engine go jump on a very lean code!

There is a code number for that, so did you get the code out of memory?

This car has a OBD ONE system. It’s a manually forced readout on a little box out on the left fender.
You plug socket lead into number “two” hole and push a button for a few seconds and a light blinks in pluses.
A Bentley manual has all the information and FAQ’s can help.
You can play with it until you get the hang of it.

Now that I got you entertained, don’t expect it to be more than what I call a “shotgun blast” affect on any details of what it was.
The pellets of a shotgun can hit so many areas on the side of a barn, you will ask yourself, what now?
The closest code that says, rich or lean malfunction. No specifics!
A little Vacuum air leak or to a glitch in some major component but it’s not sophisticated.
They didn’t spend the money to get it there or the technology of getting it there, Back then, was about an equal coin toss!
OBD II got going with more clean air mandates and finally some standardization of the foot stomping on the right necks took affect!
Same goes for the electric car charging platforms.
Cords or not, induction pads with embedded power strips in highways or parking lots?
Finally, exchanging out power packs with any standardized, on them, when they don’t even know what battery flavor to go with to establish a future configuration?

Be thankful you can work on your vehicle, without two computer technicians to pay for.
This is before another one gets his hands dirty cleaning or greasing a wire in a connector!
Then by chance getting charged for a part that goes into a mechanics tool box to troubleshoot another customers car with the same problem, later.
Today, it’s a slush fund for a soft knock education with the geeks!

Keep thinking and just listen to the cars habits, it will talk to you more!
It’s like the smell of that gasoline with that leak.
It has some German parts and they have their vay’s!

Phil

No. CEL is caused by fault codes set at the fuel injection computer or the ignition control computer.

See (copy and paste link in new browser window or tab):

https://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/EngineOBDCodes.htm

1. Diagnostic Test Mode 1: Fault Code Retrieval

If the result is anything other than the all is well 1-1-1 red light flash, repeat until no new codes display. Write the CEL codes down and post back here or in a new thread.

Black brake fluid, I guess? Black brake fluid causes corrosion in the brake system including seized brake calipers. Usually replace or rebuild. Quality of calipers can vary by vendor.

Use a Motive or like pressure method to flush the brake lines after completion using DOT four.

Does your 1991 240 have ABS or no?

https://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/Brakes.htm

https://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/BrakesABS.htm

700-900 uses different brake calipers, yet the systems are generally the same ABS or no. If not ABS, using a pressure bleeder like that Motive makes may require two-three passes to get air bubble out.

Fluid passes out and air gets sucked in at the caliper bleeder nipple threaded bore. Unless you have an assistant to open (unscrew) the caliper bleeder nipple as you press down on the pedal, and not too far, and close (screw clockwise to snug, not to torque), using the brake pedal is folly. Some that use the brake pedal to bleed brakes may perform a bench bleed of the brake master cylinder with the fluid reservoir assembly off the car. Using a pressure bleeder, I do not have to bench bleed the master cylinder.

Also, if the flexible brake lines show cracks in the outer rubber sheathing, you may want to replace these. ATE is OEM for these flexible brake lines. The unions between metal copper-nikel brake lines and the flexi brake lines tend to corrode together.

Read here on brake fluid flush using the Motive power bleeder. Around 15-20 PSI.

The system is a 1992 240 with ABS.

Hope that halps.
