Tire Rims 200 1989

Would anyone know of a source for good 240 rims? I live in Central NJ.
I just bought 4 new tires and there appear to be some leaks due to rust.

I have a set of 5 Volvo 14" alloy wheels made in Belgium, w old tires still on, for $125. Also a set of 4 14" alloy wheels made in Australia, w old tires still on for $100. I'm in Westchester County, S Salem NY 10590. I'll post a link to my Craigs list ad for pics. Best, Steve 914 763-3078

I would clean off the rust and paint or use rust converter and paint before using bead sealer.

I had a '90 740 that was 7 years old and had bead sealer on the rims. When the tires started to leak air, my tire guy took one rim apart and found so much rust that he told me that the rims were dangerous.

They actually had rust 1/8 inch thick - this family shop that I have used since 1964 had never seen so much rust! BTW - I now deal with the grandsons.

I had to get 4 new rims.

Evidently the sealer sealed the rims but accelerated the rust

Frank Ponte in Central NJ - Tire Rims 200 1989

You can contact Frank Ponte in Central New Jersey. Frank has owned a Volvo repair business and has many 240 and other Volvo models and parts that may suit you.

Do you need wheels for 240 or tires or both.

As rehsper indicates, if you have verifed leaks along the tire / wheel rim bead interface, a dismount, polish of the wheel rim bead, and remount, usually with a rebalance, and sealant along the bead interface can help. Helps the tires are not more than 7 years old.

Anyhoo, Frank Ponte in Orange, NJ has a current ad on craigslist:

https://cnj.craigslist.org/pts/d/volvo-240-parts-and-more-parts/6872670189.html

Find rims there for 240. Also, 15" 740 and also 940 rims up to 1995 will fit 240, though you would need a different tire size for these. Frank may have many of the 14" steelies wheel for 240. These are light, strong, and less bother than any alloy wheel.

Frank has a running advert in the brickboard CLASSADS:

https://www.brickboard.com/CLASSADS/index.htm?id=16851

I did not find much in the way of 14" 70R 185 or 195 for 14" Volvo 240 steelie wheels on the central NJ craigslist. Maybe ask at tire shops near you. And ask Frank.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the contact...
Actually, so far the tires are holding air pressure.
Costco tire folks did trim the rust and sealed the bead.

Unless the rust is truly bad, a healthy application of bead sealer when installing the tires should ensure that there won't be any leaks.

People in the south/SW/west will probably give stock steel wheels to you.
