I know this belongs in the classified section, BUT, I have been looking for a decent windshield moulding to replace my original for the past 8 weeks. I bought one and the guy folded it in half, making it almost impossible to not break the rubber when unfolded. Safelite was kind enough to completely destroy my original and I am really wanting to replace it with another original, not the newer type rubber moulding. If ANYONE has one or is able to get one, please let me know. Again, I apologize, but I am just needing to find someone who can help.

Off list I heard again from Todd, the OP, last week. He apologized for the long wait, explaining delays getting another company to install the trim I sent him months ago. Todd sent before and after pics, and seemed genuinely pleased with the outcome.

I don't have time right now to wade through the replies, so maybe this is already superfluous: I have one of those windshield trim pieces, unmolested, hanging on the wall of my garage as I type.
It would take some clever packaging ($$$), but that doesn't scare me. Years ago, I sent ($$$) a complete set of Vanagon door cards to Hawaii which arrived unsullied by the rigors of their trip. Have to admit, the compliments of the buyer swelled my head a bit.

Yes, exactly. You would have had to notice just one reply in this thread to learn that I had already provided the OP with the trim he was looking for. We had corresponded off-list to be sure the photos of the trim I sent made it worthwhile to pay the large package shipping premium.

I used triple-ply cardboard from a TV box. No dollar cost, but a good chunk of a Sunday afternoon spent in layout and construction. The center of the box was reinforced such that I believe I could have sat on it without damage. Kinda fun, anticipating some of the compliments you mentioned, as so many were emailed about the photos of the trim itself. I was happy that I hadn't chucked this, apparently valued, hunk of anodized aluminum.
Fedex says OP received my trim one month ago today. No news is good news?

I thought Best Buy had sent me a lot of boomerangs by mistake. Until that point, I felt I was real smart and had saved myself a trip to the Consumer Wasteland, 12 miles from my house - I ended up there, anyway.

I myself feel that no news after so much effort is sort of carelessness ( dont know if this is a word).
I find it hard to believe that this person would put this very demanded part on the shelf without responding a word.
I can feel very much the frustration that you experience at the moment.
Now there could also be an explanation about this mistake but wait and see.
I hope this event will resume to a good positive explanation from the person who received that part.

I want myself tell you how much I apreciate what you do for free for the 240 community. Also about half a dozen of you and that also includes Jarrod, that give a ton of help.
Just want to say I thank you all. I have 2 volvos 240 and will be 77 soon. It is good to have that technical support as time goes by. Never know how much driving time is left.

First, thanks for giving a new home to the trim I saved for nearly 20 years and picking up the bill for the shipping. All I asked in return is you send me before and after pictures of your ride. Fedex said you received it Monday, May 13, 2019 at 10:59 AM. Haven't heard a word since.
Any progress? Need help??

hi todd,
i have a spare volvo factory, old-style windshield that i won't use, great condition, too.
Scanex GB, made in Sweden
it's been in the garage for over 15 years and pulled from a low mileage 85 wagon.
this windshield has to use clips. since i won't use it, i would like to get it out of the garage. i paid $75, and glad to just get my money back.
how to get it to you is another issue. volvo has discontinued selling 240 windshields.
just looking further into part numbers, skandex (germany) has all the windshield trim parts including the chrome and rubber trim. those part numbers for the clips appear to be readily available from ipd, tasca, etc.

hi todd,
i planned on going back to the <91 trim moulding, but gave it up. i liked the black seal on the windshield, but i thought about trying to keep it looking as it did, originally.
i may have a number of the older-style window trim clips buried in the garage, they may be new.
i'll look if you need to source them.
oh yes, another issue, parts--too hard to find and my car is not a show car, and too insignificant for the work to find windshield parts, hence, the newer style windshield.
in a long while, the older stuff will pop up.

is this the only clips needed? i checked my volvo parts catalog and it shows an additional part number kit of 16 clips, volvo p/n 1254848, for the moulding.
will he need both kits?
nice and new, these part of your on-the-shelf spare parts?

Having done two of these, I can say with a fair amount of certainty, the 270148 clip kit has everything. The two types of clips included are shown below; the green clips allow adjustment. More detail can be seen at http://cleanflametrap.com/windshield.html. It could be the 1254848 part number refers to one of these two individually, but they all come in the bag.
I just sent the trim to the OP, so soon we'll know one way or the other.

Read my account of going to extreme lengths to keep the brightwork around my front glass: Loose Trim Fix Gone Wrong
If it had been my grandson's 90 or we did on our 89, I'd not hesitate to do what Michael Yount did to his 82 - put the 91 glass on, with the black rubber trim.
But 1990 when the change came in '91?
Tell us the Safelite story. I have the trim saved from the 89, and if you could walk up to my door I'd hand it to you. It is awkward to store, and even more so to ship.

My belief that I'd end up with your experience was one of the reasons that I decided to remove/install the windshield myself. Good luck with the replacement trim. If the old clips broke when the old windshield was removed -- you'll have a dilemma. No way to mount the replacement trim -- and installing replacement clips is usually done when the new windshield goes in.

I simply love the way the original moulding looks. I had damaged my windshield from the inside (I pushed something a little too far forward and it cracked the glass). My insurance company agreed to pay for the damages as long as I used Safelite. I made the appointment for a Friday afternoon (only one available) and went outside to meet the young man who was overly confident and seemed to be more interested in his cell phone than me. I told him to be careful because these old parts are almost impossible to find. I went out about every hour to check on the progress. 3 1/2 hours later, I get a text saying the windshield was done and everything looked great. When I was walking out to my car after work, I noticed the moulding looked "wonky". I walked around the car and sure enough, the moulding was not even attached to the windshield in most places. The places it was attached, he had glued it to the windshield itself, not using the clips. He did such a great job, that the glue seeped all over the inside of the cabin and onto the top of my dash (don't know how they are going to remove that).
I was on the phone with Safelite immediately only to find out they work 8:00am-5:30 M-F. I argued back and forth for over a week with Safelite about what they would repair/replace at THEIR expense and they refused. After 10 days of trying, I finally sent pictures and they agreed to replace the moulding but not the windshield (they could not remove either one without breaking both pieces).
Almost two weeks after the damage, they finally agreed to replace both (if needed) and ordered a moulding from the dealer. I told them it was the wrong one and they did not believe me until it arrived. They then refused to try and find one like the one I had on it...
So, it is now my job to find the moulding, pay for it and have it shipped (at my expense) and they will gladly do the labor. :-( Safelite sucks....

That's reason enough for me.
I've got some experience being an "overly confident young man" so can wince at your experience, but regret the auto glass giant couldn't come up with some business acumen in customer service to make up for the installer's behavior.
There's just no commitment by insurance to "make one whole" again in a settlement, which in your case would be done by another glass company. I think you'll risk your continued dissatisfaction if you give the same guys another piece of trim to bungle. Michael Yount is right, the windshield glass must be completely removed to install the correct clips, and with urethane these days that means new glass and a lot of labor.
I checked with UPS and FedEx ground services on line. A box 64 x 26 x 4 inches has the equivalent shipping weight of 40 pounds, even though it might only weigh 4 pounds, and to Zone 7 (based on the zip in your Brickboard profile, Todd) and my retail shipping rate, sending it in a box I'd make would cost $77.26 or $94.67 respectively.
Since you've no emergency, I suggest you keep looking for the trim more local to you. Mine won't be going anywhere meanwhile, and neither will I.

Might want to list what year the car is for possible suppliers. I wanted the newer style, flush mount in my 82. So I discarded the molding that came off my original. However, I damaged it when removing it. In my opinion, on these 25-40 year old cars, it is almost impossible to remove the old molding without damaging it. Good luck in your search!
