1992 240m47 manual transmission help! 200

My transmission started making a knocking sound only when the clutch pedal is out.. so I decided to replace the input shaft bearing.

One problem, I cannot figure out how to get the input shaft bearing off. I have tried pullers, pry bars, hammers. Is there some sort of trick to this? I have removed 2 snap rings on the bellhousing side of the bearing. Are there more I am missing? I cannot find any info on this. Please help

Yes carver I can’t make that link work.. but If it is a link to the m47 green book then I have found it finally. Thank you for your help. The bearing just seems to be really stuck to the input shaft. I’ll keep trying. Thanks

This link does not work.

A user must be logged in?

How do we find this site, Carver?

Whatever you do, do not release clutch pedal between shift and after placing in neutral. Maintaining a pressed clutch pedal at all long stops qill shorten clutch bits. Yet we do not know how many miles or if other work.

With the M47 II removed, find an auto machine shop to pull the shaft

At any rate, see here:

http://borich.lesnoe.spb.ru/auto/Volvo/GreenBooks/

Find a low-quality scan of TP30941 as a PDF.

https://ozvolvo.org/archive/

Find TP30941 and the TP30941 supplement as PDF.

Here's an article that mentions the input and layshaft as causes:

https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=18160

Best wishes for success.

Kitty thank you for the fantastic links. Very helpful because I may have to tear into this m47 in order to remove the input shaft. It seems that the bearing should pull straight off the input shaft without having to remove the input shaft. But I have had no luck even after buying a bearing seperator/puller. Thank you again

OP, search for M47 in the page, it's a mess of files. Not mine.

FYI
when trying to link to specific PDF files from the OZ page. The links will only work for a few hours...if you look at the link you posted Note the string

___request&X-Amz-Date=20190326T041903Z&X-Amz-SignedHeaders=host&X-Amz-Expires=300&X-____

(ask me how I know that)

As to the Site being a Mess. It is currently the only site on the internet that I can find that will allow downloads of GreenBooks for older Volvos.

Gone is K-Jet.org, and VolvoWiringDiagrams...

I have suggested this before, but perhaps some enterprising "Code jockey" might want to Organize and set up a new weblink the Valuable Information.
There is a link on the OZ page to contact.

OZ Volvo.org is fully operational Volvo board DownUnder.

Green book manual archive and other lynx for everybody and their OvLov! 200

Hiya Uncle CB,

We have diagrams:

http://www.v8volvo.se/mekartips/volvo/index.html

Green books in at a .RU Russia site (have that file scan up before launch, disable JavaScript in your PDF reader, the links are static):

http://borich.lesnoe.spb.ru/auto/Volvo/GreenBooks/

You know Oz Volvo Archive. I guess they use symbolic links that change, as you say, frequently, even though the site dispolays the PDF file name with the TP number.

This may help:

http://www.240.se/litteratur/instbok.htm

In Swedish, yet not hard to read or translate, so start at the site root.

Jon-Erik's 240 site

http://www.240.se/

Another .RU site

http://autoelectric.ru/auto/volvo/m-volvo.html

In the Czech Republic:

https://en.manuals.cz/man_vhmaker.php?id=37

I guess that does it. Thought I had more links.

Remember, Chinesium Gleely Junky owned Volvo Cars AB is shutting these sites down.

1992 240m47 manual transmission help! 200

Many years ago I had the same problem on an old Jeep 3-speed manual. My mechanic friend had stopped by and I was telling him I couldn't get the bearing off of the input shaft. He held the shaft vertically, pilot end down, and pounded it directly downward on the concrete curb, like he was trying to drive a spear into the ground. He covered his hand with a rag to protect it from the moving bearing. One or two authoritative hits on the concrete and the bearing was free. It has to be a direct hit, shaft to concrete - no wood block or rag between the two. The pilot end of the shaft is slightly tapered so you don't have to worry about the concrete pitting the end of the shaft.

Man I would really consider that option if I had the input shaft out of the transmission.. but from what I hear it’s difficult to get the input shaft out.. involves taking the counterahzft out and what not. I’ll keep looking for a way though. Appreciate the response. Anyone know where I can download a geeen book for the m47 transmission?
