in-tank pump/sender assembly - bung nut tool - borrow - near 22207 200 1988

The bunk nut is not going back on the same way it came off - by hammering into the slots.

The new gasket is obviously thicker. I have lubricated all sliding surfaces of the lock ring and hold downs. I also rigged a squeeze clamp to spread, and using a block, to push down on top of the sender top plate. The bunk nut just bounces off the hold down hooks.

I'm about to take it all apart again and install the original sender seal.

Yes I have the indent on the sender aligned with the tab on the tank.
It looks like ordering bung nut tool will take 2 weeks.

Does anyone in the vicinity of 22207 have a tool to lend?
Does anyone have a way to hack this tool?
- I am looking for a gear puller like Art used. The one I have is too thick to fit in the grooves. ... Maybe I can grind out a wider slot?

Thanks

Mine was not rusted so this worked. I made it out of 1/8" x 1" steel flat from a hardware store. The new O-ring was also to large so I reused the old one. This was >15 years ago. I probably used a crescent wrench or vise grips to turn it.

While it may not be of comfort to you I will confess I have never replaced the old gasket/Oring on that application. I've changed out the intank pumps at least six times over the last thirty years and the old ones have gone back into service.

The bung arrangement compresses the old gasket more as you rotate the "keeper". I will add that I always clean them up and apply silicone plumbing grease to facilitate a smooth and tight assembly.

Try the old seal (large o-ring). If it goes on tight, use it.

The tool just helps turn the nut. I don't think it would help much in compressing the o-ring seal.

      Push and turn 200 1988

While I don't have the tool, I imagine it makes it easier to squash the o ring by leaning on it while being turned.

Just last month I bought some "Genuine" Volvo seals to compare with the aftermarket. Elastics have become a real challenge for me the past 20 years especially in fuel applications as we live to see it moving from one type of oxygenator to the current ethanol blend.

Next time I have an order for McMaster-Carr I'm adding catalog #9464K62, which, according to my notes is a Viton O-ring 3.16" ID 0.23" thick. 5 for $10 if my scrawls are readable. Results eventually to follow at In The Tank

I've re-used the old seal before. It's a judgment call for sure.

They say you can do anything in international waters.
That's why I filled my hot tub with international water.

I have the tool - 28211. Shipping involved.

However, after I bought it, I found I could EASILY remove the bung by simply driving it counterclockwise with light taps from a screw driver and hammer. Have you tried unsuccessfully? My car has zero corrosion - sometimes that can be an issue, although if badly rusted, the tool won't help much.

My previous post misfired w/o a message.

I removed to lock ring, but it is not going back on the same way.
