1-1-3 code 200

1-1-3 diagnostic code.
any thoughts on the most common issue that would cause this?I let the car idle for 15 minutes on a 5 degree morning and when Icame back out check engine light was on.found a guide to reading fault codes and it says lambda control engine too rich/or lean....don't know what that means.91 240 wagon with 3.1 engine 5 speed

if the cel is lit with no faults you have an ecu chip fault.....the ecu will need replacement to solve your problem

And remember the two ecus, ignition and fuel, are wire-ored to the CEL, so check the codes in both; then unplug first one, then the other to see which has it set.

"i have never seen an ignition module fail. is this something you have experience with?"

Yes, they're bulletproof but not watertight. And they live right underneath a leak-prone wiper grommet.

              Holy mackerel example:

Do you remember when you were a kid, playing Nintendo and it wouldn't work? You take the cartridge out, blow in it and that would magically fix the problem. Every kid in America did that, but how did we all know how to fix the problem? There was no internet or message boards or FAQ's. We just figured it out. Today's kids are soft.

        See the FAQ Article Here:
        https://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/EngineOBDCodes.htm

Perform the OBD-1 code check on both socket 2 (Bosch LH2.4 fuel injection) and socket 6 (EZK 116 Ignition). If a code other than 1-1-1, repeat the test in both sockets until no new codes display.

Socket 6 (EZK 116 Ignition) for some codes can set the CHECK ENGINE light.

You have the Bosch LH2.4 fault code of 1-1-3. So a lean or rich fault condition.

If your odometer works, what is your fuel economy (mileage)?

New Hampshire does not require emissions test on 1995 and older automobiles. Yet 240 will deteriorate if engine control does not operate well. A lean or rich fuel to air ration the engine eats (with a proper blue spark at the spark plugs) can cause poor fuel economy, poor performance, fouling of spark plugs and formation of carbon deposits inside the engine, exhaust leaks you may not hear before (like at the header pipe out to the catalytic converter input union) and weak spark. A lean running condition, as caused by air intake leaks after the AMM / MAF, will cause spark plug and engine damage, destroy the catalytic converter, and other concerns. A dried out air intake manifold gasket may show a rough uneven idle when cold, yet sucks in air at any rate that is un-metered through the AMM / MAF if you AMM / AMF meters correctly

You can test the oxygen sensor using a multimeter or a dwell meter. You can also use these to test for a rich or lean running condition.

If you have the silver accordion hose connected between the exhaust manifold preheater plate and the bottom of the air filter box, the AMM / MAF will fail if you do not know the condition of or have replaced the air filter box preheat flap valve thermostat. You can test all of these sensor using your Bentley 240, Volvo Green factory service manuals. The FAQ here provides guidance on how to test with values. Use a better than cheapo Harbor Freight 4-12$ red digital display electric multimeter.

thanks for all the info.....find out next week about problems....personally I got screwed by previous owner not telling me the truth about this vehicle. But I picked it up on craigslist as is. If I can fix it up and sell and tell the truth about condition I will feel ok.PO claimed lh 3.1 engine with 5 speed is rare in North America ....was he true about that??

...if i were you on the other hand maybe clear codes and then see if the same code returns?...

And letting it sit and idle for 15 minutes in that freezing weather is probably not the best approach. It takes a long time to reach operating temperature in that scenario.
