544 wiper motor using a 122 switch 444-544

If you want to use a 122 switch in your 544 and also want the washer function and you are comfortable with adding a double pole single throw relay then this is how I accomplished it.

    Ray;

    I have studied your implementation and can see that the additional relay provides the necessary chassis connection (for dynamic braking) in the Switch position 1 (Off) only...and since the 122 Switch is a 4 position switch to accommodate the two speed motor, I also notice that there is no difference in operation from pos 2 to pos 3 when used with the 544 single speed motor in your application, but I guess you can get used to that...and now, in position 4 (Wash) you are applying power to the washer motor, while continuing to apply power to the Wiper Motor. Nice work!

      Thanks Ron. 75 year old Navy electronic technician. My 1961 544 has many changes and all are documented. I am in the process of figuring out how to wire a Volvo 850 wiper motor to a 122 switch for another project.

        Ray;

        You know where to find all the details I have for the 122 switch...points to remember: The 850 Wiper motor is likely a Perm Mag Motor with Dy Br and a three pole Parking Switch (but you should be able to get details from an 850 manual to confirm that)...so it probably doesn't need the chassis connection through the Wiper Switch...otherwise, if I can help, just e-mail me!

        Good Hunting!

          The 122 switch is wired to give wash and high speed wipe so that you can give it a quick full pull when you get dowsed in dirty water by a vehicle coming the other way. I have an additional sprung washer pump switch fitted into the lower dash edge in my Amazon that allows a good spray of water onto a dry screen before you clear the dried dust with the wipers. Being able to add a little water with the wiper running is also useful.

            I am adding a washer to my 1961 Morris Minor. They have an under powered wiper system even when wheel boxes, cable and motor are in good shape.
            Rainx helps a lot.
