I don't want to pay $190 for a steering joint - either economy brands above suitable? Thanks.

lower stering joint - MTC or Professional Parts Sweden? 700 1991

    Hi Gary,

I just replaced the lower joint on a newly acquired 90 244 with 180k. I think it was MTC, $42. and I found the workmanship and fit to be satisfactory, and comparable to the original.

Many of the parts we're getting from Volvo these days are no better than aftermarket, and it's possible their joints are from the same source as MTC but in a more expensive box.

I think these joints fail from either drying out of the grease or failure of the seals and intrusion of salt water. As preventive maintenance I include the steering joints along with hinges, hood latches, etc., in a yearly application of Fluid Film. It is a penetrating, non-petroleum grease that doesn't dry out.

    Regards,
    Peter
