FRESH AIR VENT QUESTIONS ??? (O_o) 1800 1972

Hello all
Few questions regarding the air vents I'm attempting to restore on my '72.

Are both the passenger and driver side cables the same lengths ?

I know you can replace the fresh air vents by knocking them out with a block of wood and a hammer, but how do you install a replacement one in its place ?
I assume you just reach in through the hood after removing the grill and press down on it with your hand ? Would that be enough to fit a replacement one in its place ?
Seems like an awkward spot to try to somehow hammer them form the top once you remove the fresh air grille on the hood of the car.

Appreciate any wisdom y'all can send my way by reply to this or feel free to text me if possible (860)338-3757

Much obliged

Luis

Luis;

The hammer is to overcme the lip-surround of that seal...if you installed a new seal, I expect warming and lubing the new pliable rubber up will help and a hammer may not even be necessary...just some heal of the hand blows on that 2X4...if you are trying to put it back with the old seal, you might need heat, lube, a hammer plus a good dose of profanities to get it back into place...

Good Hunting!

Thank you Ron

Would you happen to know if both cables are or should be the same length ?

Thank you

Weezie;

I'm not sure about cable lengths, but would expect them to be the same, since distance from each vent to where its respective control cable terminates (the little tabs in each footwell) is also about the same length. Are you not able to inspect?

Cheers

Are the part numbers the same?

Derek makes a good point, (as usual)!...having a look in the exploded assembly diagram with associated Parts List is always a good idea, and that would answer the question for certain!

Cheers

They appear to be the same. The early ones up to chassis #26855 are slightly shorter, both cable and sheath but the part numbers are the same so I guess that the early ones can be fitted with the late cables. For the early ones, they quote 1100mm for both inner and outer, so that must be wrong.

#55192 1360mm cable
#88783 1260mm sheath
