Shifter Knob? 900

Hi to all,

The shiftier knob is starting to crack on the 97/960. Do you know if the knob can interchange with the newer cars at all, I like the look and style of the new knobs.

I been at the local Junk Yards and the ones I found are worst than what is on the car, probably stuck on buying a new one before they come unavailable.

Happy Christmas to all!

    Shifter Knob? 900

Just replaced my gear knob about 2 months ago. Had considered knobs from newer cars but none of their attachment points were compatible with ours. Newer knobs have locking tabs, ours none. My gear knob is the long black rubber type common to 740-940-960 series.

    Regards,
    Amarin.

black shifter Knob getting sticky? 900

After having 2 expensive OEM black rubber shift knobs get sticky with age, I found a work-around.

Get some black liquid "PlastiDip" from Lowes/Home Depot, remove the shift knob, and dip it several times in the liquid plastic (first stuff the insides with paper towels). After the final coat of plastic, let it dry for a few days, then cut out the opening for the overdrive switch.

The plastic is available in a spray can, but I hate wasting products that come in spray cans.

Black shifter knob getting sticky with chunks fall off! 900

Great suggestion! I'll try to find such plastic-dip at the hardware shop.

        Thanks!
        Amarin.
