PV armrests 444-544

Just wondering if there might be an alternative to my seriously trashed armrests for my 445.for instance, repros for VWs are readily available but I haven't found mounting dimensions. Obviously, Volvo repros would be even better, if anyone knows a source. Thanks folks.

    Dg;

    You might try taking the "trashed" one to a competent auto upholstery shop, and asking them to have a look and seeing if they can reupholster...you might be surprised...as Danny notes, if there is a substantial structural element under there, they may be able to recover it nicely...some upholstery shops have some surprisingly good (and reasonably priced vs the alternatives) Kung-Fu!

    Good Hunting!

      Not sure whether the stock look is a requirement for you. I never liked the stock interior. For the 'armrests' (which really double as door pulls) I bought a nice leather belt, cut 2 straps from it and mounted them with stainless screws / fender washers. Works great and, to my eyes, a remarkable improvement.

    I don't know if this would interest you as a look, but the original armrests in my 444 (gone many years now) had aged to disintegration, revealing a cast (aluminum or pot metal) structural interior that I found much more to my liking than the bulbous look of the older armrests/handles. I don't have a picture, but maybe from the shape yours are in you can see what I'm talking about. It's a solid continuous piece with the holes to fasten it to the door.
    I did find one picture that I can email to you if you contact me off this board.

      There were 2 basic formats of door pulls/armrests.

      The early PVs had 1 that used 4 bolts to hold it to the door.

      Then later they got 1 with only 2 screws, with a padded upper section and a hard plastic lower section and even later still they got a foam filled vinyl covered door pull, also using 2 screws.
