1988 240 Parking Lights 200 1988

Long time no post. I recently picked up an '88 240 from a neighbor. Free car but not much info from p/o about history of car. I have no running lights or parking lights or dash lights. Whatever you want to call them. Is there something I should look for specifically? Switch?

    Hi,

I would start at the beginning of all of your individual circuits and that’s in the fuse panel in the hinge side of the drivers door.
Remove all the fuses and clean the ends of them. Clean the clips as well.
Buff the tips bright and apply some sort of anti-corrosion salve or a light spray of corrosion inhibitor.

The reason for this maintenance is because of its location. It’s right above the foot well that catches and hold water from off shoes.
If it snows in your area it can be quite a bit of accumulation there.
As it evaporates it seeks colder zones like window glass that’s more obvious.
If the fuse panel should happen to have fuses with a zinc like material instead of brass corrosion can set in rather quickly.

Your new to you car might have been neglected or not upgraded.
This may seem to simple for the problems you are having and may be so but it’s something that’s going to be needed at some point to make the car dependable.

The other side of the coin or circuits with any car are grounding points that you should take a good looking over.

    Good luck.

    Phil

Check for 12V at both sides of the bottom 2 fuses in the fuse panel with the light switch in the Parking light position. Nothing on the left side suggests no power coming from the light switch. Power on left but not on right suggests bad fuses or lots of corrosion in the holders. If fuses blown, you have some detective work to do on the circuits they serve.
