Occasional clicking or ticking noise from brakes 200 1992

I have an occasional clicking or ticking noise when I apply the brakes. Coming from the front. Almost sounds like stones hitting the wheel wells, but this noise even occurs when I'm at a complete stop! Brakes acting normal otherwise.

It it continuous clicking or just one click as you press the brakes? In my wagon, this is electrical and a bulb or fuse is acting up.

    Hi,

Do you have hubcaps on your rims?
They might be loose or have cracks around the holding springs.
Even a rim could be cracked somewhere along a weld or bolt pattern.

I have hydra rims, so no hubcaps. I can look for cracks, but seems like I would hear something every time. It happens maybe 10% of the time I hit the brakes.

        Hi,

Humm, I thought you had your window down and hearing it at the slow speed to remove wind noise.

Can you tell if it’s from one side more than the other?

Are you turning in one direction or the other while braking?
I’m trying to plug in a bad wheel bearing.
10% of the time is not much to go on for a consistent hunt.

Does the clicking or ticking decrease in frequency with speed and is it above 15 mph or mostly below? I’m fairly sure you have ABS brakes and wonder when was the last time the pads and their hardware got serviced.
You might consider looking or listening for the sound coming from the drive line U-Joints or center support bearing. They come and go in sounds quite often!

Have you driven on any dirt or rock filled roads lately? A rock could be lodged somewhere.
Up or down a road shouldn’t matter but on the sides or middle could! (:-)
I have seen some cars that looked like their owners belong to a rock-a-billy club. These cars are dusty, rusty and dented! A substitute to be a cheaper Jeep for camping wagon.

The car is talking to you that something is not normal and is new, if this is your daily driver.

        Phil
