which catalytic converter 900 1997

Time to replace mine on my 960 wagon. Two O2 ports on the side of mine. I see some low price offerings on line but those images look to have only one port. So can someone here point me to the one I need? TX.

Correction: The upstream port is in the top of the convertor.

Guess I'll reply to myself. I roughed in the new convertor. Need to loosen the header nuts and reseat. Tried to save the up stream sensor from the old convertor which was def good but no luck. $20 on rock auto no big deal. Thought maybe I could pinch in the new down stream sensor in its place. It produces voltage but very little swing. Also waiting on a fresh convertor outlet clamp. Will need a little stove cement on that too to seal it good. So some cheap odds and ends left and it will be complete and I can get the thing inspected. Picked up some good SS nuts too from McMaster Carr. Don't want to keep the hardware store junk on that application. And using the de-facto Torque to look at the codes and data.

1996+ is OBD-2 for all US car. Uses two oxygen sensors. One 02 sensor upstream of the catalyst and one 02 sensor downsteam of the catalyst at the aft end of the converter.

    A 1997 is the V 90 for estate / wagon.

    https://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/Exhaust.htm

Yes, the 700-900 series FAQ fails OBD-2 info as it has none. The exhaust info may be useful.

    How many miles?

If engine control and tune are good, the catalytic converter should last as long as the V 90 does. Or maybe not. Though you are in NY so maybe rust got the converter?

You've scanned the OBD-2 codes in engine control. Any fault codes or check engine light?

Actual convertor is fine. Inlet wields broke from the impact driver while attempting to remove the downstream sensor. Had no voltage output. Course it came right out after the converter fell from the car. I could have it rewielded. But for time. A closer look at Rockauto looks to be the one.

Car is a good runner and I'd like to keep it that way. And too damned useful.

Way nicer than the Versa CVT I just financed. Piece or steaming shit that thing is.

I want all my bricks back.

        Praise be to Lord Redblock!!!

The Nissan Versa seems to do well. Yet, yeah, full mechanical restoration of Volvo is rather hard to beat.

        Dear soldon740,

Hope you're well. The factory-installed Volvo catalytic converters are high-quality items. Thus, it is worthwhile to get fixed the broken weld. A competent exhaust shop can do this in a few minutes.

Even if you go with an aftermarket unit, keep the Volvo original item. I'll bet the aftermarket unit's service life will be "pretty short", so you can have the Volvo unit re-installed.

If you don't have storage space for the old part, sell it to an automotive recycler. The Platinum and/or Palladium inside has real value.

        Hope this helps.

        Yours faithfully,

        Spook

No argument the OEM part is a beaut. Only the heat shield pipe is rough. Inner SS pipe and cat body could be new. Have to appreciate the grade of the header hardware too. Top notch where it counts. i used to rent and had to let go some of my Volvos. A few private acres now though. So procure is the plan. Cheap part to get by with for now. I'll squirrel the original in the garage barn thing. Love the ultra simplicity of the red blocks. Really do like my silver block too. I figure any left out there still running were cast right and cared for. Out to manipulate the front O2 sensor from the cat. New one in tomorrow. Rockauto is quick...
