164 power windows 140-160

Probably a silly question, but I was looking at a '75 164 today and couldn't figure out how to roll down the front windows. Couldn't find a switch or button anywhere. I know the rear windows crank manually but the fronts are a mystery.

The side windows on the 164s with recessed door handles are the same as a 240. Mine were chipped and scratched and the mounting bracket was rusted so I got a set from the yard from an '87 wagon. Same for the rubber surrounds. They were manual but I think you could get an electric version to work.

Some years of Mini Cooper have the switches in the middle console too.

The stock window switches are mounted in the center console of the dash near the heater controls.

Those tricky Swedes. I guess that makes sense from an economical & engineering viewpoint, just not what we're used to as "normal".
Thanks, Eric

I've always thought a window switch should be on the door it operates.

But I've seen M/Bs and BMWs that have the window switches on the console between the front seats and I'm sure there are others that are the same.

The trouble with door mounted switches is they're exposed to rain/snow. Of course the center handbrake surround mounted switches are exposed to spilled drinks and crumbs :-) '75 240's with power windows also have the switches in the center "tower" and I think they may have also been part of a kit to add power to manual windows. - Dave
