940 or 945 900 1993

Hey everyone, im Michel im from Germany but i live in the US at the moment so please forgive me my grammar mistakes.
Ich bought a used 1993 940 early this year, I drove and cleaned it manly for the beginning.
Now couple weeks ago I started to take it apart since I wanted to give it a tune up. I change the Head gasket cleaned the engine and replaced broken parts. So now I wanted to put it back together, what mildly well worked. So now to my problems it fires up but it can't hold on the firing I'm pretty sure it's not the timing belt since I checked that 5 times. Sparks are there fuel is also coming. I'm not 100% sure if the Injector connection are correct but since it's a 1/4 chance of getting it right its not a problem to try and error that. I checked all other connections in the engine compartment and all vacuum hoses. They should be correct. At least the ones that make sence. Im not sure about the system aswell since it has one a air temperature sensors and no MAF is it the LH 3.1?

In hope somebody can help me and thanks for every try
Greetings from Virginia

Michel,

If you have an intake temperature sensor rather than a MAF then you have the Regina fuel system and not one of the LH systems.

It sounds like the engine will start but then it immediately dies. Can you keep it running if you hold the throttle pedal down a little bit?

Have you checked for fault codes in the OBD system?

Dear Luddenbrook,

Hope you're well. For the sake of good order, please confirm that you changed the headgasket, that goes between the head and the engine block. I ask, becuase headgaskets usually are changed only when they fail. On Volvo 940s, that mainly is the result of over-heating, following failure of radiator or heater hoses or the heater control valve. Changing a headgasket on a Volvo 940's B230/B230F/B230FD engine definitely is not part of routine maintenance.

Despite your efforts, it sounds as if the timing belt is one tooth (ein Zahn) away from the correct position. I note that on 93 and later 940s, the timing belt must have rounded teeth (on earlier 940s, the timing belt teeth have a square edge).

Check to make sure that the spark plug wires are properly connected. The distributor - from which the spark plug wires take power to the plugs - most likely is mounted at the rear of the camshaft. Some B230 engines have the distributor mounted at the front.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

Spook
