If your rear bumper is like our old 745, there is an aluminum beam under the plastic cover.
There are low spots and high spots in the beam and ribs inside the plastic - the ribs have to go in the low spots.
Take a good look at the places where it does not fit well - perhaps you can see where the plastic cover need to be pushed up or down to adjust the ribs a bit.
Look under the bumper, the 740 had rivet-type fasteners under the bumper.
If yours are the same, there is a flat head with an insert about 1/8 inch in diameter.
Before the fastener is installed, the center protrudes, when it is inserted, the center is pushed in, expanding the inside end of the fastener to secure it.
To remove the fastener, you need a tool to push the pin through the fastener to allow it to be pried out. I used a proper-sized nail with the end cut off flat. Do this at a location where you can find the little pins after they fall out. I did mine on the lawn and lost several of them.
OOPs - It looks like my advice may be useless!
There are several utube videos on 240 bumper repair.
