Wheels 120-130

Can anyone tell me if there is an American steel wheel that will accept the large red V hubcap that came stock 1964 220? I would like to run a modern tire, but keep the correct hubcap.

I am certain you will get responses, and the 4 1/2 lug pattern offers choices.

Remember wheel width, offset, and axle -center hole diameter. I had 122's way back, and was able to find Hubcap Clips that could be bolted to the face of a rim that had no hubcap "Bumps"pressed into the wheels--a bear to center on rim--but did the job tho'. A lot of guys use the Ford Ranger wheels--a bit wider & good fit. Regards, Ken

I'm not aware of any wheels other than early Volvo solid wheels that can accept the large hubcaps. I had a customer that used Mercedes hubcaps, but he was an engineer and may have altered the hubcaps to fit.

Ever since the last manufacturer of high quality radial tires in the 2 sizes used on early Volvos, 165/70/R15 and 185/70/R15, Winstons closed over 15 years ago, I've recommended 185/65/15 or 195/65/15 sized tires depending on rim width.

Coker and Vredesteins make tires that fit, but they are expensive, their tire ratings are low and if you need replacements, almost nobody stocks them so they have to be special ordered.

You can get my recommended tires almost everywhere.

Thank you both for your input. I am currerntly running 205/70x15 tires on the stock 4.5" rims. This keeps the diameter close to the original 640x15 tires used on wagons. The rims are a bit narrow, but it seems to work fine. There is a small bit of inside rubbing when parking, but not really a problem. Somewhere I heard that there was a Mercury rim that would accept the Volvo hubcap. I was hoping someone knew about this. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Good question - I was looking for the same thing. I have not found the answer, but I do know that 80's mopar wheel's bumps are too small of a diameter, and similar 80's ford wheels are too large. I'm currently using the ford rims (w/o hubcaps), they are a 6" width. The mopars are 6 1/2, but I have also found both 5.5 and 7". The 6" wheel feels appropriate for a 195 tire. (I was trying a pick and pull solution, at $8 per wheel- probably need to go somewhere where they have older stock.)

I discovered that Skandix does have a 5.5x15 wheel without slots that are for the early cars with the red V hubcaps. Their site lists them for 149 euros each! Maybe VP will import them at some point. Hopefully at a much lower price.
