aw70 install to 940 questions 900

hi,
i have a 94 940 with the od out in my aw71.

i have a parts car with an aw70. i know they are swappable, but there are no junker 940s around at this time. i prefer the more robust aw71, but online prices are more than 2x what i can get at the junkyard.

question:
any problems dropping in the aw70 (both have the cps)?
any performance deficiencies?

thanks again,
byron golden

Dear bcg,

Hope you're well. The Volvo pocket data booklet - cars (700, 850 900), 1991-1996 (p. 100) - shows the gear ratios are identical as between AW70 and AW71 transmissions.

Torque converter diameter varies: the locking torque converter is 254mm (10") in diameter, 6mm (1/4") more than the non-locking torque converter. This should not be a problem if you use the donor car's torque converter.

Am I right to conclude you've ascertained the cause of overdrive failure is internal rather than external (wiring, relay, etc.)?

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

Spook
