The dreaded blower motor swap

I'm about to change out the heater blower motor on my '90 240 wagon, and plan to use the "holesaw method" with maybe some modifications. Never done one before. Looks like this way will save some dismantling at least. Any tips , advice, or moral support?
Thanks, Chris

A) There is a driver's side and a passenger's side to it, mixing them up really increases the time involved and will cause you to swear at an unsettling volume.
B) I would have some of the circlips on hand; if one vanishes into another dimension, there really is no way to fudge something different into place [see above about swearing volume].
C) TEST THE NEW ONE so that you can avoid installing a dud and having to re-do it.
D) I doubt the hole-saw method really saves that much, but to each his own.

I think that the lore about the job is a bit over-done. The job itself is straightforward; the problems are along the lines of "How to I reach THAT?", "THIS is never going back in place!" and "The human spine does not bend that way." Don't psyche yourself out on it, it's just bolts, screws, clips, and wires (and vacuum lines).

You've not done one before? This is an airbag car. Don't bother with short cuts. 1990 Blower Motor Replacement (with dash out)

hi arty b- sounds like we are getting ready to hit Omaha beach and it wont be for beach blanket bingo. have read about this job a few times and watched videos thereto. after the f bombs have been dropped and its all put back, ill bet there is a year of behavioral peculiarities and mysteries, sweetened by strange noises, rattling, etc. remember when the good guys broke out from the beach and headed to the Ruhr it took almost a year to stop the bad guys. give em hell. regards oldduke

Dismantle the driver's side first so you have a clear idea of how and what needs to be done on the passenger side regarding the fan blade and clip.
Use a hole saw on the passenger side big enough to work through.
Press a thin bladed screw driver against the motor shaft when you release the passenger side clip so it slides down the screwdriver and out of the heater matrix.
There's a clip holding the outer shell like the ones you CAN see on the driver's side that you can't see--way up on top--use your hand to feel it. If the outer shell doesn't come loose you didn't get the top clip.
I've done this job both ways--you will save time by not having to completely disassemble the passenger side. You should remove the glove box for better access and vision. -- Dave
