Fuel pump problem

Hey folks,
I have a problem with my 90 240gl
It had been laid up for 6 months, it used to start right up. I charged the battery and it won't start. I listened for in tank fuel pump activity, nothing. Jumpered electricity from antenna to fuel pump lead, it started and ran! Figured it was the relay, got another one from dismantler and tried that. My neighbor a mechanic w/ a voltmeter checked the relay and said it was getting power and working on one side
But not the other. He checked a wiring diagram and said the problem likely was the ECU. Does that sound right?
Any help would be welcomed.

Check for spark 200 1990

Yes it could be the ecu, even more likely if it has a pink label.

However, it could be something much less expensive and easy to fix. The ecu has to see the pulses which trigger the spark before it allows that second relay in the white box to activate the fuel pumps.

So check to see if you have spark before anything else. Easiest sure way to do that is introduce a bit of fuel, such as starting fluid, and if it doesn't fire up at least for a second, assume the spark is missing.

If it does fire up, then you might want to suspect the ecu isn't recognizing the spark and operating the fuel pump relay. Jump voltage to fuse 4 (get it from fuse 6) and see if it starts and runs with the jumper in place. Don't leave it there if it does; get the ecu replaced.

If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.

"...So check to see if you have spark before anything else...."

It must be getting spark because it did start when the pump was hot wired.

Noel said "I listened for in tank fuel pump activity, nothing. Jumpered electricity from antenna to fuel pump lead, it started and ran!"

There's that "it" again. I took it's antecedent to be the tank pump he jumped, but I think you're probably right, he meant the car's engine.
