Seat differences,-- early vs. late production 444-544

I'm in the process of making new 544 seat upholstery and need a little information about the framework & springs. I know the front seats are different regarding early vs. later models, at least the backrest is different. The bottom cushion looks the same as far as I can tell. Does anyone know if the back seat had any changes, or are the early & late ones the same size and interchangeable? Thanks

yeah. proceed cautiously. i'm in the process of an interior rebuild and having to piece together an assortment of frames of unknown origins for the front seats. I can tell you that the construction of both the cushions and the backs of the front seats varied over time. The dimensions, however seem to have to stayed the same. The geometry of the hinging changed at some point so you wont be able to able to mix and match seat frames and back frames indiscriminately. I haven't yet addressed the back seat but since I'm dealing with a duett, I cant advise you there.

The backrest of the front seat is thicker on the later years, starting in '62 I think, but not sure. So they would definitely require different upholstery. However, the upholstery I made for the later style bottom cushion seems to fit just fine on an early style bottom cushion I had lying around. Unfortunately I don't have an early back seat to compare. Thanks for your input.

If you'd like to do a mild custom interior, a friend has a 544 in which she has installed the back seat out of a '65 T-Bird, with the center section removed. The sides of the seat back curve into the side panels - gives the back seat a cozy feel. She also installed the T-Bird's front seats, and they look really nice with that chrome trim on the seat back.

Those old T-birds did have a very unique back seat, but I want to keep the original look as much as possible. I found a good deal on an industrial sewing machine and actually just finished making a couple sets of new seat upholstery. One set is grey vinyl & grey tweed-cloth in the center panels. The other set is red vinyl & red perforated vinyl in the center panels. I installed the grey ones in my '62 544, and might sell the red ones if anyone needs them. While I was at it I made a set of patterns in case I ever want to make more.

I forgot to mention that I have the new red upholstery listed on Craigslist-San Antonio, if anyone wants to see pictures & description.
