Steering Rack Type 200 1976

Can someone guide me as to how to determine what type - ZF or CAM - of steering rack that I have in my 1976 245? I'm planning on ordering inner tie rods, and everything I'm reading says that I need to know the manufacturer of the rack in order to get the right parts.

My car DOES NOT have power steering...I don't know if that helps narrow things down.

Any help as to where to look on the rack itself for an identifying number or what physical characteristics to look for to differentiate would be great.

I have read a lot of articles (incl the Haynes manual) that talk about there being a door tag or plate that provides an id number that will distinguish the type. Well, I don't have that as I think there was a different system on cars as old as mine.

Thanks!!

you can tell by looking at the rubber bellows

on the outside end the ZF rack is large
on the CAM rack the end is small at fits tight to the tie rod.

I think the rack tag is located in the trunk--on the panel below the rear window--right side if memory serves. That may not be much help anyway-as the designation would be something like 1,2 or 3. There's probably someone on the BB that can interpret that number. -- Dave

Here's some parts info for a CAM manual rack:

When the rack got loose in my '78 240 it turned out to be the bronze rack bush
where the rack slides in and out of the housing. I ended up getting a new manual
rack made by Meyle. Doesn't seem to be available any more.
