rear hatch lock repair 1800 1972

The lock on the rear hatch/window of my 1800ES doesn't work, has anyone disassembled one of these? If so, is there anything to be careful or weary about in taking one apart? Any help on repairing the inside of the latch assembly would be appreciated.

When repaired, don't shut the hatch with the handle in the locked position or you will be doing the repair again. Volvo added a warning decal above the lock on the '73 models, maybe also the later '72's.

It comes apart fairly easily. There are a few tricks like how to remove/install the outer lock handle and locking tongue.

There is a spring, but it is trapped until you remove the piece that rotates inside, the piece I call a tongue, but Volvo calls it a lock cylinder.

FYI, just about every piece is available new. The only 2 parts that aren't available new are the o-ring for the outer lock handle and the lock block retaining ring which is basically a thin nut with notches for tightening instead of a hex.

I have most of those parts in stock.
