544 Water Pump lower inlet pipe 444-544 1963

The 1963 544 Water Pump lower inlet pipe is so long that removal/ installation of the lower hose is extremely difficult (the 90 deg on the hose barely clears the idler arm when fully installed).

I think I may shorten it about 1/2", if I do I will lose the small flare which helps retain the hose, but I have made many water connections with no flare and they stayed on.

Anyone else tried this ?

You shouldn't have to cut that pipe if the car originally came with a B18, but whenever I have done a B18/B20 conversion on a B16 444/544/445/P210 without updating to the B18 front panel, required shortening the lower water pump pipe to accommodate the customized B16 radiator we have to install.
