Has anyone changed the rear end axle to lower gear ratio in a 544?
Are there any options to changing the rear end opposed to the overdrive transmission? I would rather not cut the floorboard tunnel, my 544 interior is finished. https://www.brickboard.com/GALLERY/images/13182.jpg

    You didn't state the year of your car in your post. The fleur-de-lis hood emblem would indicate it was a B16 PV, but the trunk lid emblems look like it was a B18 PV. B16 (through the 1961 model year) cars came with 4.56 ratio, while (1962-65) B18 cars came with a 4.11 ratio.

    If you currently have a 4.56 ratio diff the easiest way is to swap in a complete axle with a 4.10 diff. 4.10 standard on late cars.

    Car looks beautiful. Very nice indeed.

    Yes, but only a Dana/Spicers.

    Do you know which rear end you have, A Dana 23 or a Dana 27 or a ENV?

      I will get to it this weekend.
      Is there a clear difference between the Dana 23 and 27?

        The easiest way to tell the difference is to find the "23" or "27" that should be cast into the central housing. The numbers are cast into the webbing on the right hand side near the inspection cover facing the rear of the car.
