1990 960 turbo sedan brake light help

Greetings fellow Volvo fans,

Helping out a friend.
He has a 1990 760 turbo sedan.
The driver side brake light does not light up.
The other two brake lights do light up.
The driver side brake light has power going to it.
A new brake bulb does not light up either.
Bulb contacts look good.

Any thoughts?

Any questions?

Blessings!

Checking for voltage is an incomplete check! Voltage is not enough, you must have enough current to satisfy the load.

I suggest that you run power directly to the socket from the battery, if that does not work, run a ground.

One day my daughter had a headlight out, she tried to change it with no luck. I checked for voltage and found 12 volts.

I suspected a bad connector, so soldered in a new one

Still had voltage but no light.

I pulled on the wires, and one broke!

I stripped it back and found a bunch of black goop and one copper strand.

I went to the junk yard and got a connector and set of wires back to the firewall, soldered them in and the light then worked.

If there is 12V at the bulb, then check the ground wire.

Keeping it running is better than buying new

      KlausC,

Thank you! Yes. The ground is also good. And all of the other lights work in that tail light panel. The left turn signal and the left rear parking/running lights and the left rear fog light all function properly.

      Blessings!
