1976-77 240 Seat Question-Need Advice 200 1976

1976 245.400K+ I want to replace the driver seat "skin" rather than use a "cover" but I don't want to pay a shop for a custom job. LSeat.com makes reasonably-priced real leather skins (although their customer service appears terrible) to fit 1986-93 seats. But I've read the 1986 and newer seats are a bit larger than mine. I don't know if 140 or 164 seats are more similar in size to those in my 1976. Has anyone "reskinned" a 1976 or 1977 car seat? Has anyone tried installing skins from a newer car on 1976 or 1977 seats? Any advice?

The newer seats are going to be easier to fit. Some guy on turbobricks is doing a detailed restoration of a 240 interior and he used the leather skins that you refer to. The skins look too loose, even on the modern seats.

I recently tried using the cheaper vinyl ones on ebay. I had both style seats for a a 1979 245 restore I was doing. Tried them first o the older style but the upper portion of the seat back's are not as wide and the skin was to large. Even tried adding some padding. I ended up using the modern seats. The skins were well worth the price.

go to the junkyard and buy the newest seats you can find in a 240. they'll fit and you can save the old 1s to find correct covers for. i imagine once you install the new seats, the old 1s will be forgotten. if you have a 242, then more work is needed to swap the hinges. good luck, chuck.
