Rear wheel bearings for 68 wagon 120-130

Parts book gives me the same race and tapered bearing as the 130 etc... I’m having trouble double checking this as some seem to think the wagon had a different bearing. Also can I just get the seals etc from Volvo,?

The early 122 wagons got Salisbury rear axles. Then those were replaced by a Dana/Spicer 27 and then a Dana/Spicer 30.

The Salisbury uses the 32207 axle bearings and a hard to find axle seal.

Both Dana/Spicer rear axles use the 14132T/14276 bearing and cone and the axle seal is available from Volvo and those are only ones I use.

The only way I know to tell without removing the axles is to look for the threaded holes that are visible for the carrier bearing cap bolts on a Salisbury, the Dana/Spicer holes are blind and don't go through.

FYI, I have both styles of bearings and axle seals in stock. I also have the axle gaskets in case you need them.






A 1968 would have come with a Dana/Spicer, but since the earlier Salisbury rear end can be bolted

Thanks for the info Eric. I’ll check my axle, probably it is the original, but there is no way to be sure with these old beasts. I remember my 65 sedan had a very different looking differential (ENV?Salisbury?) than my 67(Spicer) Is the Salisbury really so similarl to the Spicer that the only tell is those blind holes? I can source the bearings and seals locally, but what exactly do you mean by axle gasket?

The axle gaskets go on both sides of the re-enforcing plate that holds the backing plate to the axle flange. The gaskets maybe more appropriately called backing plate gaskets.

Come to think of it, the gaskets maybe the key as they are the same shape as the axle flanges.

The Salisbury axle flanges and gaskets have 4 holes and are roughly shaped like a circle with the a section of the top removed.

The Dana/Spicer gaskets and flanges have 5 holes and is roughly shaped like a square with a round bottom. The 5th hole is a weep hole and that extra hole should be visible.

So you should be able to tell by looking at the axle flanges.
