Consructing a Faraday Cage for your Volvo

So it will survive after a Solar Storm (last storm 1859 and one is due, toasted the transAtlantic Cable and most telegraph lines --- the top of Electro-Tech back then)

Google Solar Storms and Faraday Cages.

    CME and EMP ....

    Hi Charlie Brown!

So, if a modern Earth, er, the electrified 'modern' world, would encounter a Carrington level Event coronal mass ejection solar flare, and polarity between the coronal mass and earth would be attractive or not, well, it is over for modern civilization.

No fuel, no water, no nothing. The stator and rotor field coils in that Bosch alternator may melt and fuse. No more Volvo, unless parked in a garage size Michael Faraday cage that would resist the gauss field strength of a turbulent geomagnetic upset as as with the 1859 solar storm. And you have a giant underground gas tank with fuel stabilizer as gas goes bad and the engine does not run. (Amazing the missed details in the post apocalyptic TV series to keep the narrative and advertising revenue running.)

Maybe would make zombies? We'd all be living post-apocalyptically while winning Emmy or Golden Globe awards maybe or maybe not. Z-Nation or something Walking Dead. Or that awful NBC series 'Revolution'.

Power grid owners and operators, certainly in North America, and in 'Murika, do not want to invest in breakers and other devices to at least limit damage from such a CME event in spite of the NERC and the FERC and other recently passed legislayyy-shun.

Sort of like Glass-Steagall versus Dodd-Frank. Yet very little before NERC and FERC and the like.

Enough with the stupid gore or violence porn on stupid television. Maybe best stated in the OPINIONS page.

I guess I won't be a docent at the Spark Museum of Electrical Invention in Bellingham, WA. I can donate my collection of vacuum tubes, though, post-humorously. No joke.

    cheers,

    Buffalo'd MacDuffed.
