Glove Box Door Spring 444-544

Any ideas where a guy might find an appropriate spring for the glove box door on my 544?
Pushing the latch button while pulling on the corner of the glove box door is getting a bit tiresome. It appears that at one point in time a spring helped open the glove box when the latch button is pressed. Seems like it should be installed on the left-hand hinge.

Any ideas out there?

Peter Burrows (Alphatech) makes an excellent replacement spring - easy install.
alphatech@carolina.55.com or call him at 704-293-5517

I have also gotten replacement Door stop springs from him as well as the nylon bushings for where the over-rider bars attach to the bumpers.

I got in touch with Peter and ordered a spring.

Thanks ever so much for a prompt easy fix!

And thanks to all for your ideas.

Keep rolling!

Pete Burrows from the now defunct website "alphatech" used to make and sell these. I have one from him and it works flawlessly. Maybe his email still works and he has some on hand:

If I remember right the rubber door stops were pointed which compressed when the door was closed but was supposed to be tough enough to help push the door open. This did not work for me. One thing that really works good is to make a bracket in the left top of the glove box door jamb just large enough to accept a push button door jamb on off switch. I can`t remember what switch I used but it is round and has a tough spring and is all metal. The diameter of the switch is 21 mm. Probably any good push button jamb switch would work. The small led strip lights in the roof of the glove box lights up the glove box real nice. The spring in the switch opens the door just fine. Really its worth the time. Larry

I don't think there was ever a spring-assist for the glovebox door on a 544.
Pretty sure it was always gravity-assist!

I suspect there may be some kind of alignment issue.

There is supposed to be a spring for a 544/P210 glovebox door.

I haven't found an original 1 new or used, but I think a fellow Brickboarder, Peebee, makes them if he is still around.

I spoke to him early last year and haven't seen him on Brickboard in a while.

I sent him an email this morning, but no response as of yet.

I closed the Alphatech website as it was costing more to maintain than I was benifitting. I will however still make the shift knobs, clutch bushings, springs etc to order. Send me your info to and I will get a spring off to you. alphatech@carolinaa.rr.com

PeeBee - I believe your email address was misspelled. I cut and pasted what you wrote and it bounced back. Likely too many aaaa's in carolina...
Others - please ensure correct spelling before hitting 'send'.

Order inquiry on the way...

Thank you.
