Removing trans cooling lines? Least messy? 200

I'm going to attempt a local option for fixing my lines. I need to take them off for the source to be able to match the old ones. What is the best approach at keeping the mess to a minimum? Let car sit over night and drain pan? Thanks.

    Local option?

    Source?

I've removed the lines before; the cooler in the radiator doesn't hold but an ounce or two, and I certainly didn't drain the transmission pan. I know you'd be more concerned about a mess than I'd be unless your work surface is painted too. Cardboard sheets and a couple old rags??

You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you've made up your mind that you just aren’t doing anything productive for the rest of the day.
