sealant for door weatherstrip 900

Time to replace rubber door seal (weatherstrip) on my driver's door, luckily found one in good shape at a local salvage yard today. Wonder what's a good sealant to use when attaching it. It seems to be held by some sticky stuff, could be reusable, but perhaps better to renew the 20+ year old goo. Suggestions appreciated. Car is a 1994 940 N/A.

Not sure what you mean by "sealant". Do you mean glue? If nothing is damaged, the replacement strip should snap right in place I believe. But if the holes are torn, then some Permatex weatherstrip adhesive, available at most parts stores, would help. If your car or the donor car has been oiled for rustproofing, you'll need to do some cleanup with solvent.

Well there was sticky stuff when I removed the weatherstip, it partially remained on the frame. Don't know it it's been like that from factory, or if someone has replaced it at some point. Didn't feel it was holding too strong, but it kept things attached. I'll try Permatex adhesive, hope it's same consistency. I have 3 of this type of cars (two '98 V90s and one 940) and they all could use some of the weatherstips replaced because of general wear and tear.

I'll second that. No sealant used. Pull out the old and push the new one in following the metal edges of the door opening of the chassis. Start at the top corner of the door nearest to B pillar (middle pillar) and follow suit. You'll have to remove the bottom door-frame plastic cover also. T25 screws covered by plastic tabs.

I replaced mine about 10 years for preventive maintenance and guess what?? - not much difference between old and new. The door still slams shut solidly (unless there's tear somewhere along the rubber). Quite highly priced too for one entire part.

Regards,
Amarin.
