Auto Tranny question 200

Hi all, I know I'm going to catch a little flack because my question does not pertain to a specific 200. This is just a general question about an automatic transmission. This is a 1995 Volvo 940 ( yea I know, wrong forum) but the tranny is same as most 200's. My question is, " Is there a difference in a AW-71 non-turbo and a turbo. I need to replace my AW-71 but am afraid to order one until I can find if there is a difference. My is the AW-71 Turbo model. On several sites that sell used or rebuilt AW-71's there are several listings for turbo and non-turbo. I just did not want to order the wrong one. Thanks for any help you can give, Max.

Auto Tranny question 200

aw71 and aw70 are essentially identical.

aw71 is bit more robust fr=or handling the extra power of the turbo 230

i have used aw71 in non turbo cars as plug and play.

to my knowledge aw 71 was never factory installed in a non turbo car

go and note aw 71 not used in 240's

some 940's used aw71 in na cars

Auto Tranny question 200

One difference is that the AW71 lacks "pistons" (disc sort of affair) in chambers above the valve body which soften the shifts for NA cars. - Dave
