Question on US spec 940s. 900

Hi all,
Were 940 LPT (low pressure turbo) spec cars sold in the US or was the a Europe only option? Just curious.
Thanks,
Joel

Question on US spec 940s. 900

Don't think the 940 light pressure turbo was ever sold here.

I believe the first LPT imported into the U.S. was the 97 850 GLT. The 5 cylinder models had the LPT available for awhile after that.

Question on US spec 940s. 900

    Dear Griff951,

Hope you're well. Based on a table in the volvo pocket data booklet: Cars (1800, 850, 900) 1991-1996, p. 36, I think that cars with the B230FK and B230GK engines were not marketed in North America, or at any rate, in the U.S.

The "control value" for these engines is 27-34kPa versus 48-54kPa for the B230FT and B230GT engines.

I presume - possibly incorrectly - that the B230FK & B230GK engines have the "low pressure turbo" to which you refer.

    I can't recall a posting by a U.S.-based owner of a car so engined.

    Hope this helps.

    Yours faithfully,

    Spook

      "a car so engined"

Possibly the first use by a US-based poster of "engine" as a participle

Question on US spec 940s. 900

        Dear j.pelchat,

Hope you're well. English is word-rich, so it's possible to use words carefully and sparingly, while being clear. Thus, I'd guess it would also be proper to write, "a car so equipped".

Do you know if it would have been lawful to import into the U.S. a car with a low-pressure turbo? Or, did such cars have emission control systems not acceptable to the US Department of Transportation?

        Hope this helps.

        Yours faithfully,

        Spook
