Looks like I'm gonna need some head work on my '93 940 base wagon - one spark plug is hung tighter than a tick, one stripped its threads on the way out. I put it back in & the car still runs pretty well, but .....

What are your experiences with used heads for the redblock? The only machine shop here won't work on mine (idiots).

Or should I just bite the bullet and get one from FCP or IPD? Or is there a better (cheaper) source?

    Get the spark plug repair kit (helicoil) and be on your way in a couple of hours. These heads are straightforward, any good machine shop can handle. Note use of the word "good" machine shop.

    the 230 head for the 940 na is the same as the 240 na head.

    casting 530 on the passenger side.

    your problem does not even seem too hard to fix.

    helicoil the bad spark plug holes and you are done.


    if you get really jammed let me know as i always have 3-4 fresh 530 heads on the shelf machined and ready to install.

    if the head is from a 240 you will have to swap the camshaft which is simply unbolting the one you want to install in the new head. 940 cams are cut for distributor in the head not the block

      cam swap required for 94, 95 940 heads with distributor in the block, as well.
