Side Window Wind Noise 1800 1970

Despite new, quality door seals, and adjusting the doors so they close even more tightly, I still get a dreadful amount of wind noise from the tops of the windows, particularly at the rear, toward the roof pillar. I've also had the doors apart and canted the window channels inward as far as possible. Next step is to reline the channels with new felt. I'd appreciate anyone's advice who's had this same problem and solved it.

Side Window Wind Noise 1800 1970

Many years ago I had a new Ford with a severe wind-noise problem at speeds over approx 50 MPH. After receiving no help from the dealer, I had no choice but to find the problem & fix it myself. I started by applying wide masking tape around all the windows & trim molding on the drivers side of the car. Then I got in thru the passenger door & drove to about 70 MPH. Big improvement. Then I would stop, get out & remove ONE piece of tape, get back in & do it again. After several tries, I discovered the noise was actually caused by a wide piece of stainless steel trim running up the A pillar. I glued a piece of black rubber weather-stripping in behind the trim, which seemed to solve the problem. Maybe a little masking tape will help you find the problem on your Volvo too.

I’ve heard that putting some foam backer rod between the drip rail and the windshield mitigates some noise. Apparently the window can be adjusted from inside the door so that it’s level with the top of the door frame. Haven’t tried either.
Would be difficult to get inside the car with the window taped to the weatherstripping.
